Your journey starts in your house. There is a potion in your computer. You can get it if you like. Now leave your house and go up towards grass and Professor Oak will stop you. After a scene Professor Oak will give you a Pokémon. You will choose one of the three Pokémon. Bulbasaur, Squrtle and Charmeleon. Your rival will also choose a Pokémon that has advantage to yours. When you will leave, he will challenge you to battle to test your Pokémons. If you loose, nothing happens. Now head to north to go to the Viridian City

While walking in Route 1, you will encounter Pidgeys and Ratatas. But it is better to fight to gain Experience than to run.
Now, go to the PokéMart. The store clerk will ask a request to you to bring a package for Professor Oak. Go back to Pallet Town. For a quick way, just jump down the ledges. When you reach the Pallet Town. Go now in Professor Oak's lab. After you delivered the package, your rival will appear. And you and your rival will recieve a PokéDex. Talk to the lady sitting in the house up of the Professor Oaks Lab to get a Town Map. Now back to Viridian City and go to Route 22 (left side of Viridian City) and your rival appear to challenge you to a battle.

After deafeating Brock, he will give you a boulder badge and a TM34-Bide. Badges will boost up your Pokémon's power. Once you defeated Brock, head now to the right side of pewter city. When you have the cut ability, you can go back through and obtain Old Amber. A fossil at Cinnibar Island.
